Paddle, Cruise & Play: Discover Vilano by Water

One of the absolute best ways to experience the beauty of Vilano Beach is from the water. Whether you’re gliding across the surface on a paddleboard, kayaking through quiet inlets, or chasing the sunset on a sailboat, the Intracoastal Waterway around Vilano is pure magic.

There are so many ways to explore — from guided dolphin tours and eco-cruises to floating tiki bar boats (yes, they’re as fun as they sound), plus sailboats and catamarans offering sunset sails with unbeatable views. Wildlife sightings are common too — we’re talking manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, and tons of coastal birds (I recently saw flamingos) – all in their natural habitat.

If you’re staying at Saltwater + Sunsets, you’re in luck — the house includes paddleboards and kayaks, plus a cart to help you roll them right to the beach or river with ease. It’s the perfect setup for a laid-back DIY adventure, whether you’re an early-morning paddler or just want to float around at golden hour.

Want to kick it up a notch? You can also rent your own boat from nearby Camachee Cove Marina — just minutes away. Derek and I rent boats from there often. We keep it simple: grab some Publix subs, pack a cooler, load up the nieces and nephews, and head out on dolphin watch. Honestly, we’ve had days where we’ve seen 10… even 30 dolphins, some swimming right alongside the boat. It never gets old — and the kids absolutely love it.

One of our favorite things to do while out on the water is anchor at a quiet little sandbank. The kids jump in, collect shells, and explore, while the adults lounge in the sun with a cold drink in hand. Even our mini goldendoodle, Jax, gets in on the fun — running wild in the sand and splashing in the shallow water.

Whether you’re exploring with little ones, relaxing with friends, or looking for a romantic waterway escape, Vilano is meant to be seen from the water. It’s peaceful, beautiful, and full of those “is this real life?” kind of moments.

Ready to launch your own adventure? Book your stay at Saltwater & Sunsets and explore the water your way — paddle, cruise, or sail into the slow-living coastal life we love.
